UN, Apr 26 (PRIME) -- The situation with the Black Sea Grain Initiative is at a dead end, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a news conference late on Tuesday.
“As for the letter that the U.N. Secretary General handed over to President (Vladimir) Putin yesterday, I hope it was not leaked because it is private correspondence between the U.N. head and a head of a U.N. member state. It would not be a respectable move to make this letter public,” he said.
“It would be another attempt to exert pressure on the situation that has not been solved yet and that has been led to a dead end by our Western colleagues.”
The approach of the West in general and of the U.S. in particular to the situation is irresponsible.
“The U.N. Secretary General asked three U.S. banks to resume SWIFT and help Russian Agricultural Bank to service export operations. Several months passed, and one of the banks was kind enough to finance a single operation,” he said.
“But they want us to build the entire further operation on this principle, and it is irresponsible. If you want to solve the problem of the lack of food on the global markets with a systemic approach, you should just return our bank to the SWIFT system.”
